Pilisvörösvár (Werischwar in German) is situated in Pest county, 18 km northwest of Budapest, crossed by the Nr 10 road and the Budapest-Esztergom railway line, half-way between Budapest and Dorog where the Pilisvörösvár gully broadens into a valley.

With its 14,000 inhabitants, it is not only the biggest town but also the administrative, educational, healthcare, social and cultural hub in the valley. It became a town in 1997 and has been the administrative centre for 11 urban communities since 2012.

One of the largest German communities lives there, carefully guarding their culture and traditions.

It is also a strong economic force: nearly 1,100 small and medium-sized businesses enable many people to work and live in Pilisvörösvár.
